A
native of Ewing, New Jersey, award-winning photographer David
Simchock has had a life-long interest in the
arts, although his early career aspirations brought him
into the corporate world, practicing as a mechanical engineer
in New York City and later in corporate management in Great Britain.
Life as an ex-pat inspired David to further experience our planet’s
many cultures, and in late 1999, he departed from his technical
and managerial career and embarked on a world
journey that would bring in the new millennium – an adventure that
eventually lead him to five continents over a three-year period – while
creating an impressive photo essay that would be admired by even the most seasoned
travel
photographer.
Upon his return to the States, David pursued a new path in life, and in
early 2003, he founded his freelance photography business, Vagabond Vistas Photography.
David quickly established a respectable résumé, including
front-page credits with The New York Times, The Washington Post and The
Sunday Star-Ledger Travel
Sections. His photography projects have spanned six continents and have ranged
from the cover of the local
Trenton Downtowner to commercial assignments as far away as Morocco.
David’s artwork has also been exhibited at numerous venues,
from New York City to Trenton to Philadelphia and his images have
earned several prestigious awards and accolades. David is
represented by The
Print Center, as well as The
Farnsworth Gallery in Bordentown, NJ. His artwork is
available for rent by Available Art in New York City.
David is represented by New York City-based stock agency Peter
Arnold, Inc., as well as speciality fine art
producers, Farmboy
Fine Arts (British Columbia, Canada). He proudly
contributes his talents to Flashes
of Hope and volunteers as a student mentor in the Trenton
School System, among other causes.
Complementing
David's wanderlust is his passion for music and he can often be
found practicing his craft at concerts and festivals. No
stage is too distant, too big or too small to attract David's
ears and eyes. He is an annual contributor to the XPoNential
Music Festival (hosted by Philadelphia-based radio station,
WXPN)
and the Appel Farm Arts & Music Festival (NJ) and
he is quickly expanding his efforts on a national and international
level. David is a frequent contributor to Festival
Preview (photos and blog), and has also established a
relationship with Crawdaddy
Magazine (photos and gig reviews). If all that
wasn't enough, he also writes a bi-monthly "photo tips"
column for the Community News Service group of newspapers.
The story of Vagabond Vistas has been featured in several
publications and David has also personally appeared on various
local television talk-show programs, bringing his insatiable wanderlust
and eclectic imagery to the forefront of the area’s visual
art scene. In early 2010, New Jersey Life Magazine
festured an eight-page spread on David's life, travels and photography
(Vision Quest). Most recently, the Rutgers
Magazine ran a colorful piece on David
("The Intrepeid Traveler"), who graduated from
Rutgers in 1986.
In addition to his “travel” specialty, David also
offers “location portraiture”, “commercial”
and “event” photography services. And, now in its
eighth year, Vagabond Vistas has grown into much more
than a visual arts venture. Although “photography”
remains the primary focus of David’s efforts, his "nomadic
endeavors" have now evolved into speaking engagements, photography
workshops / photo tours, and writing, presenting a comprehensive
package of inspiration.
Please browse this website for details about the services offered
by Vagabond Vistas, as well as a view of David’s
exhibition schedule and, of course, his portfolio of nomadically
diverse images.
David’s combined passion for travel and the arts are clearly
represented in his special view of the world. He enjoys being
a stranger in a strange land, and strives to provide a fresh approach
to his work, capturing the mood of the moment, as well as the
entire journey.
